WHY are YOU making movies?

Once again this question has come up for me. There's no real reason, but many reasons. I can't simply say 'Because I want to make people laugh" or "I want to make people think" Even though both could be applied to my movies.

I do not have a real urge to convince people in any way, yet I seem to keep writing things about crazy people where us normal folks could learn from.

I guess what really fascinates me are just that, people. I love sitting on a bench and just checking folks out. It's really the 'normal' folks I like watching, the normal folks where I could learn from.

Then there is the theme about 'being yourself' which seems to pop up in most of my screenplays. Finding simple happiness, and frustrated love (when is it NOT going to be frustrating anyway?), I guess all kinds of things everyone's having some troubles with. Maybe I'm trying to work out all my doubts about my future through my films.

But then again, I am not really sure why I'm making them. All I know is I love making them.

Again for many reasons -

I enjoy it. I guess that?s the main reason. I love the challenge of working a story out and then making it work on screen and there?s nothing more rewarding then seeing something that you?ve only pictured in your head on screen. I love working with a crew who all share the same vision.

I like making people feel emotions, or look at things in a different light, but its not something I do in every film though.

I also find it very helpful; I?ve just broken up with my girl friend of two years and writing films that I intend to direct very soon has been a helpful process.

I'm making movies because I HATE bad movies. Rather than to continue to knock most movies being produced these days, I thought I'd put my money where my mouth is and make my own.

It's the only thing I'm good at.

I'm dumb as a post; I can't even get a job as a shelf stacker at Asda, even though they're so desperate that they're announcing vacancies over tannoy and posting application forms through letterboxes.

I like to think I have some talent at making movies, enough to scrape a living out of it.

I'll either live the dream or die trying (the latter being more likely, I intend to do some stunts in my next flick).

Well I am not a writer nor am I a director...However, I have always loved photos. I like looking at the world with a frame around it.

I started shooting movies when I was eight years old with an Argus Super8 camera. From there it went to stills and then finally into my profession.

In all honesty I am not much for watching movies. I would rather be outside taking pictures with the two hours or even reading. Plus, without a TV it makes it hard to watch movies at home.

When I get behind my camera I can see what is going on and I know what to do to make it look great. It really bugs me though when someone says "Oh that shot of yours looks like XX from YY." When I have never seen the movie. Why can't people accept the fact that some things just grow organically even if they are original??

Well, the reason I make movies is because throughout the course of my life I have made some observations about human interactions, religion, politics, philosophy, sex and art among many other things. I formed opinions based on these observations. I feel a need to express these opinions - and for me, cinema provides the ideal medium. It gives the observer a real, very tangible representation of the faces and people. It allows them to empathise a lot easier. Plus I have an acumen for any type of technology, be it a motion picture camera or a computer. I don't have a "passion" for it. It is what came naturally to me.

Im learning to make movies so I can fully express myself through the art of film. I am not a huge movie buff, i am very anti- Tv but i love the beauty of bring art motion, dialog and music together. Im most interested in a blend of narrative and documentary. I am a world traveler and want to bring to the screen the beauty and uniqueness of the cultures I visit.
